ANTIGONISH, NS — The St. FX X-Men have added some size up front ahead of the new season.

StFX basketball head coach Steve Konchalski is pleased to announce the commitment of power forward Sidney Okeke to the X-Men lineup for the 2019-20 season.

The Brampton, Ontario native stands at 6’8” and weighs in at 235 pounds. Okeke will add some size to the front court rotation for the X-Men and Coach Konchalski in 2019-20 and beyond. As a second-year player, Okeke will have three years of eligibility left.

Hailing from Brampton, Okeke’s commitment to the X-Men is a homecoming of sorts with his return north of the border. Last season, Okeke played his freshman season with the Trinidad State Trojans, a junior college in Trinidad, Colorado. Prior to attending Trinidad State Junior College, Okeke played his high school basketball at The Rise Prep in Brantford, Ontario. While at The Rise, he was honoured with The Rise Prep Community Service Award for 2018.

While at Trinidad State, Okeke saw the court in 27 games, making three starts over the course of the year. He averaged 3.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game while shooting 52.1% from the floor.

Coach K is excited about the addition of Sidney to the roster.

“Sid will give us both an inside and outside presence to our front court. He is a physical player in the paint who can step out and shoot the three. He is another addition to what is rounding out to be a very strong recruiting class,” commented Konchalski.

Okeke will look to help fill a hole in the front court left by the graduating Daniel Passley (Mississauga, ON). Passley ranked fifth in the AUS with an average of 15.3 points per game.

The X-Men are coming off a season in which they finished with a 7-13 record in league play, good enough for fifth-place in the league standings and a spot in the post-season.

Sidney will enroll in the Bachelor of Business Administration program at StFX in September. He joins previously announced X-Men basketball commitments Jaxon Smith (guard, Halifax, NS), Dondre Reddick (guard, Antigonish, NS), Avan Nava (guard, Mississauga, ON) and JJ Sedore (guard, Brampton, ON).
